Crochet Hooks in Mumbai

Prior to my trip to India, I found an India based forum called Creativegarh. Creativegarh describes itself as “a worldwide community of people from all walks of creative life. It’s a platform for amateur and professional creatives to inform of, display, discuss, exchange, buy and sell ideas, services and talents to each other.”

I wanted to know where I could purchase crochet hooks in Mumbai so I posted my inquiry there. Through that, I connected with Eesha, a woman starting a home-based business as a craft supply reseller.

Since she didn’t have large-sized crochet hooks in stock, she ordered them from Pony, a crochet hook manufacturer in Tamil Nadu. I purchased 100 crochet hooks from her for RS10 a piece (about 22 cents) and she delivered them to the coffee shop that I had been treating as my office during my stay in Mumbai. This couldn’t have worked out any better!

Since my workshops in Mumbai, many people have been asking me where they can purchase crochet hooks.

First of all, I would highly recommend Eesha. She’s reliable, her hooks are of good quality, and you can’t beat the price. She just set up an eBay store and smaller purchases should be made there:

For larger inquiries, you can contact her by email: Here’s a sizing chart that she has provided me:

Second, I have been told that Hobby Ideas sells crochet hooks, although I haven’t visited any of their stores to see the selection. Hobby Ideas is a craft and hobby supply store and there are several Hobby Ideas shops in Mumbai. From visiting their website, it seems they also host various workshops and events.

*Also, thanks to Eesha and one of her craft forums, here’s a list of stores in Mumbai supplying all craft material in general (so not sure if they carry crochet supplies):

  1. I have been crocheting for years and I must say that Pony needles are terrible. Firstly, they are plastic and they break easily. Secondly, they have no grip area. I would rather use them in Knitting. I have tried all the above sites you gave and only found that Apple Needles and an online store selling crafts carrying woolen yarns (

  2. pony not only make plastic but rosewood, bamboo, maplewood, aluminium and steel knitting needles and crochet hooks. Another company you can try is knitpro
